On's Kitchen

Thai food is truly divine.  What luck to have found a newly-opened Thai restaurant not far from our home. On our first visit last week we met members of the family who are working hard to make this new venture a success...we counted about 10 family members of three generations operating in various capacities as the customers were being served, but the real force is ON herself (pictured above).  Because we finished our meal as the place was closing, she sat and chatted with us, and members of her family acknowledged that no-one can cook quite like her. Of course we returned for lunch on Tuesday with a friend.  I had spring rolls "to die for.." and the dish I photographed: Lad Na. To read a review of On's Kitchen, go here. If you are from the Twin Cities area, hustle over; although the restaurant is modest, their Thai food is the best in the Cities.

  1. I take your word for that, no Thai food here, but we can eat Italian at any hour of the day...

  2. Wonderful find! I love Thai food. I had a similar experience last night going to a new restaurant close to home that was fantastic and meeting the owners who were such friendly and enthusiasic people. I'll have to post about it soon.

  3. On's food looks divine and I love a good Thai meal. We have a family restaurant nearby and it is a regular stop for us. The children are very much a part of the restaurant and we have often seen kids doing homework at a corner table. We have even seen a little recital of dance in native costume... Best wishes for On and her family! Your photo of her is great

I like the looks of the cook. I never ever got heartburn from eating Chinese food. I never got sick from eating Japanese food and some of my favorite dishes are Japanese. I don't like octopus at all regardless of who fixes it. To me it tastes and chews like a chicken gizzard -- I love chicken gizzards but not octopus.

  8. The food does look scrumptious. Your photo of On is perfect. (It must be just about time to use the plane in your banner to head to Mexico . . . hope you find some good Thai food there.)

  9. Well, you sold me! Great photos.

Re your comment on Ocala: That equine "beauty" would love your gentle touch!

So, you're soon about to fly off to warmer climes, right?

  12. Lovely portrait and fabulous food image! Living in the homogeneous suburbs where chain restaurants are considered fine dining, divine food is but a dream. To dream of real authentic cuisine. Happy for you to discover On's kitchen. I am quite envious.

  13. I hope this restaurant survives and it probably will since it's a family venture.

  16. I've now eaten there twice, and enjoyed both meals. During my midweek lunch, the place seemed deserted. I left hoping the restaurant would succeed, but worried that it might not.

Went there for an early dinner on Friday, April 15. Before I left, the place was packed. Turns out, the StarTribune ran an enthusiastic review the previous day.

    Hooray!
