Curious mural

A year or so ago I had a mural theme that I posted off and on, and this one reminded me of the wealth of images we have on the streets here in both St. Paul and Minneapolis. I find this mural which is adjacent to a recently closed restaurant a rather curious one showing different modes of transportation; however, I cannot quite understand the buildings and searchlights. Any ideas?

  2. We could find more stories to build about this mural than about my captain!
"Hit and miss", what a nice expression, thank you, Kate. I'll try to remember it with my pea brain...

  3. I don't have answers about the search lights, but the Transportation Mural is by Scott Murphy.

  4. I understand what you mean, but the lights and zepellin along with the building give a very Deco style look at the mural that goes very well with the outfits of the passangers (and surely the tram). I think it's gorgeous and very original.

  5. Hm, maybe the lights are commemorating a World's Fair celebration? Was the World's Fair ever held there?

  6. Beautiful detailed mural. I went to the Transportation Mural link. That was so interesting. Wish it had said something about the searchlights though. I don't have a clue...sorry.

  13. this is wonderful on many levels. It is an interesting picture, I agree with jm and marley, sort of art deco, looking out for invading zeppelins in wartime theme. I find it even a tiny bit menacing.... fascinating find, I am enjoying your art/mural/sculpture series very much.
