Chihuly Chandelier

Because Sharon at Phoenix Daily Photo makes me green with envy whenever she posts Chihuly's glass works at The Desert Botanical Garden, I thought it was about time to get a Chihuly fix at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.  This gorgeous chandelier with neon interior lights hangs from the ceiling in the foyer. Years ago, I watched Chihuly's  worker bees installing it in its present location, piece by beautiful curling glass piece removed from dozens of boxes spread across the floor below. Best show I've witnessed.

  5. I'm not familiar with this but there is a very similar looking one at the Mayo Clinic.... In the meantime Merry Christmas to you and yours, Kate. :) We're doing the snowbird thing in a bit but I'll still be looking for photographic updates on my "birthcity and environs.

  11. Oh Kate, that is simply gorgeous. That day I got the preview at the Desert Botanical Garden, I witnessed the same thing. All those hundreds of boxes spread out and each piece being put in one at a time. What an amazing assembly job.

  12. I would have loved to been there when the piece was assembled. Lucky you!

When I look at this piece it reminds me of a brilliant sunburst! Wonderful!

  13. Yellow is usually a colour I dislike, but in a sculpture like this, it works very well indeed!

  14. Isn't his work just great? On a recent trip to India I had a layover in Dubai and spotted one of his chandeliers in a boutique in a huge mall there....red, red, red it was. Saw an exhibit of his in Seattle last summer; wow.

  15. You were lucky to see it installed. I have seen many Chihuly works, but never one as it was being put together.
