10-10-10 Worldwide Global Warming Grassroots Parties

The following quote is from this site, which explains the grassroots environment efforts:
"The 'Global Work Party' is designed to couple grassroots environmental activism with political engagement in communities across the world on Oct. 10, 2010 — 10/10/10.

McKibben, co-founder and director of 350.org, the organization responsible for planning Sunday's "work party," put on a political rally last year that CNN called the most widespread day of political action in history. In hopes of lighting a fire beneath world politicians, the scope of this year's event has expanded to global scale.
'"We need to figure out a way to get our politicians to work," McKibben said in a phone interview. "We figured one way would be to get to work ourselves, to kind of provide the model, and so all over the world people will be doing very useful things in their community.'"

I learned about this effort too late to check it out in St. Paul and to participate; however, "planting" a tree on my blog is one way to promote attention to environmental issues.  I think that I will  plant a tree myself somewhere it might be needed.

  1. I just read about this global "party" this morning...I like the tree you planted to celebrate/promote the problems.

Nice to hear from you ... I've got a similar problem in that I simply cannot get to every blog I would like to...not enough time in the day.

Perhaps I have too many blogs!

I figured you for a literature teacher ... so wise and literate as you are!

I taught American history and Lois taught English.

Have a great first day of the week!

  3. Love the tree you've planted here.
Thanks for visiting my blog--maybe you'll post a photo of your white rocks. My husband gathers them, too. I may do a Rocks 2 for him. . .

  6. It's a great way to build awareness. Even one person, doing one thing, is participating. I'm so glad you posted this.

  8. Love your post Kate and that photo is so beautiful. Lately I have been on a garbage kick especially on the trails. When people see something so beautiful how can they just dumped their trash.

  9. What a lovely tree! And, what a wonderful effort! I'm hoping there is a very large citizen clean up effort going on in Hungary today.

  10. I think your virtual tree is also a good statement. It's a beauty at least. Love those red leaves.

One thing everyone can do is to plant some trees. Even one tree will work for you as long as you live and then for someone else. Grass is a waste of resources as it is expected to be cut and that takes all the pollution gas engines emit. I am in the process of getting rid of our grass and the hot and dry weather has made it a lot easier.

I like the color of the tree. It looks like a Crimson King Maple.

  12. Good idea to "plant the tree" here on your blog to promote awareness :) I think change does begin in our own communities, wherever they may be.
Can't wait to see your real tree planted soon, too!
An aside- thanks for the post awhile back on your SF blog of the painting of the church in Golden by artist M Ferran~ I would have never known of her work, but now I have it on my wall... a birthday gift from my mom. (may do a post on that in the future!)
    :)

  14. Tree planting is a good thing - but here is one take on the "Global Warming" hoax. Here is another, and another of another, and one more. The same crowd that tried to tell us we were entering a new Ice Age when Carter was president couldn't sell that hoax, despite the media buying into it. When they couldn't freeze us into submission, they tried the opposite tack.
