Joseph
Joseph is the valet at the entrance to United Hospital in St. Paul. When he saw me taking photos of a sculpture in front of the hospital, he approached me and asked to see my camera. He in turn proudly showed me a picture of his son on his camera. Joseph is from Ethiopia and has been in the United States here in St. Paul for two years. I wish that I could speak another language, ANY language, as well as he speaks English!

I always feel good to meet people in the U.S. who are from Ethiopia (and most often is seems they are taxi cab drivers). The horn of Africa has such poverty and it is good that industrious people have a chance to better themselves and provide for their families by working in the USA.
ReplyDeleteje suis en admiration devant les gens qui parlent plusieurs langues, c'est un don que j'aurais aime avoir
ReplyDeleteFace of a good man.
ReplyDeleteExcellent portrait and story! ("Necessity, who is the mother of invention." Plato)
ReplyDeleteMoi aussi, Kate. If there is anything I would impress on a young person (school age) is to study another language, or two. Congratulations to Joseph on his accomplishment and his outgoing nature.
ReplyDeleteWishing all good things for Joseph. Thank you for introducing us to him.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that so many "foreigners" speak the language better than we do?
ReplyDeleteAn inspiation for us all!
ReplyDeleteHi Joseph, and welcome.
ReplyDeleteI agree about learning a language, I wish I could at least speak one other language. I have been trying, but it seems very hard now at my age.
Cool! It's always neat to make new friends. :D
ReplyDeleteGood photo of a happy-looking man. With pictures, you don't need any other language.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling! I wish I were fluent in another language too!
ReplyDeleteI'm constantly surprised by people who want to talk to me once they see my camera. :)
Nice portrait Kate!
