Free Burma-October 4, 2007

I've joined an international movement to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. Instead of our regular posts, bloggers worldwide are posting FREE BURMA messages on October 4 as a show of solidarity. FREE BURMA! (See http://www.free-burma.org for more information)

  1. Kate - this is a laudable goal and a very tough problem. The military dictators are crazy, ruling the country with a combination of paranoia, greed and astrology. The people have no power. If the government can suppress Buddhist monks, the most respected members of society, and suffer no consequences, the future seems bleak. But maybe this strategy will backfire by outraging the populace. I spent all of an hour and a half in Burma or Myanmar last year, just a walkover from Thailand. The people were charming, warm and yet desperate.

I like the goal and hope it is possible but there are other places even worse in the world and life, such as it is, goes on there without hope. Sad, but that is our world today.

  14. Hello Kate, I missed the post, too, but I hope that others have taken up the slack.
I read that the military is willing to talk to the opposition - It is a hopeful sign - or just buying time - let's hope for the best.
