Angel #2

Earlier this year I posted this photo of an angel. At the time I thought I'd use angels as a theme, and if I find more, I'll add them to the blog. This angel is in Calvary Cemetery on Front Avenue in St. Paul.

  7. Angels although made of stone and all, are quite soothing, and this one does just that. A little sad but it transmits peace and quiet.

The angels in cemeteries are a thing of the past. Here, at least, where we live, cemeteries no longer allow "markers" above the ground. All must be flat so they can be mowed over by riding lawn mowers. Some of the older cemeteries still allow large monuments but the cost of your angel would bankrupt the estate these days, so people settle for a granite marker. One thing they are doing here which is different is to etch or burn somehow, a photographic image of the person onto the stone. Some of those really look nice.
