Fun or Scary?!

As youngsters, my children were frightened of clowns, but I didn't fully comprehend this until after I had hired one for my son's birthday party. As an adult, he's still not fond of them. How about you?!

I can understand children being afraid of clowns. Adults with makeup on their faces, dressed up in funny clothes and acting weird.

I was never afraid of clowns as a child but as an adult I think of Stephen King's "IT" every time I see one. Yikes!

    Scary, of course!

In the immortal words of Bart Simpson, "Can't sleep, clowns will eat me."

  6. Hi Kate, nice photo - like the Garfield visor. But it must be hot under all that makeup and hair!

  7. It doesn't surprise me that children are frightened of clowns. I know quite a few people who are frightened of some modern street theatre too - where the actors don't move and impersonate a statue and then 'suddenly' a finger moves, something like that. Watched one last night and a child in Menton was terrified.

Personally I like clowns (if they are good) but then I adore all forms of theatre, including mime. Remember Les Enfants du Paradis? Could be my all-time favourite film - after Casablanca!

Interesting posting with good question. And I loved yesterday's bears.

  9. Barb had a post today on clowns and i commented on her post that I think they are a bit Jekyll and Hyde - sometimes scary sometimes funny. There was a horror movie with a very frightening clown in it but I can't remember its name.

  12. I didn't mind them as a child, but I always preferred the acrobats.

I think the scariest clown is Ronald MacDonald. My children thought he was just the pits!

  13. If I was a clown, I believe I would be the "whiteface" one, not that funny! Did you also get the large shoes?

No, I'm not afraid of clowns; they can even make me laugh! The real fun can howeer be to bring your kids or grandchildren to a circus and the pleasure is then to watch THEM!

No not me either. I think there is some evil in clowns though I know it isn't really the person in the clown but then that is what I fear. Not knowing.

  22. That's interesting. Many point of views about clowns. State that your photo is really beautiful (I love his expression), I've ever felt sad watching at them. The only time my parents took me at circus, when clowns came in, all children were laughing and one crying: me.
