Regular Folks

More street art-It was impossible to get a straight-on and complete subject photo of this mural because large vans were parked at the curb in front of the building, blocking a good shot. But, I like the message.

  3. Yes, we all together make this world, that's the message. "Regular people" might not be in the news or on TV but their contributions are priceless.

  5. Good photo with a great message! I find a lot of instances where there are cars, truck, or highline wires in the way of the photo I want. Sadly, that is way many of my photos are of the top half of a building.

  8. Pierre, Can you define "naive painting" for me? I've read that elsewhere, and I'm curious.

    Annie, I agree.

Carol, it's on Selby Avenue, a little east of Lexington (forgot the cross street--it's right on a corner.

Thanks to all for the comments!

  10. Hi Kate,
here is what I'reading on wikipedia about naive art :
"Naïve art is created by untrained artists. It is characterized by simplicity and a lack of the elements or qualities found in the art of formally trained artists".

That's indeed the way that I see this mural... I would ad to this definition the terms of "spontaneity" and "authenticity"...

Like Rousseau (the douanier) in France, or Grandma Moses in Vermont

  11. Pierre, thanks for your return visit. Appreciate it. Grandma Moses immediately came to my mind! The reason I like folk art and folk music so much is because it is the work of the people--know what I mean?! I appreciate all art and music but those two categories hold a special fascination for me. I had a friend who once sneered at the music of Aaron Copland; what a mistake!
