Trolley ride at Lakewood Cemetery

On October 10 I introduced you to Lakewood Cemetery where I just finished an OLLI six week, once-a-week-afternoon course on the history of the cemetery, including its development, current condition and relationship to the Twin Cities population. In addition to lectures, we had field trips and the grand finale was this trolley ride that canvassed the grounds. Believe it or not, it was fascinating and I hated to see its end. Stories connected to some of the sites, famous residents (some of which I showed you here and here) the varied tombstones, the unbelievably beautiful grounds that includes a lake, greenhouses, crematorium operates with an eight million dollar yearly budget.

  2. Sounds like a fun course focused on a cemetery. The trolly tour must have been interesting.

  3. As I recall, Lois and I rented an apartment across from Lakewood Cemetery after we were married. Several of her grandparents are buried there. I remember nothing about it, though. Re your comment about raising thoroughbreds: We've just finished watching "Heartland" on Netflix. It's 10-11 seasons and is a wonderful family show about a grandfather and his two granddaughters running a 650 acre horse farm just south of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. I think you'd love the show!

  6. Hi Kate. Sorry to hear that you've been so ill. The flu can be very debilitating. BTW, what did you mean when you wrote that many would not post on CDP blogs? I didn't understand that. It was in your comment this morning on our Lady and the Lizard.

  8. I'm so sorry, Kate! What does your doctor say? It seems like a long time to be so sick. Maybe you need a 2nd opinion? I've found that there are tons of doctors who are wrong or just not very helpful but keep you around to take your money!

  9. I saw your comment at Lowell's blog that you're not able to comment at my blog at the moment. I'll double check my comments to see that any comments from you aren't hiding somewhere they're not supposed to be, like in spam. I've seen that happen occasionally.
