When I was a child, a woman dressed like this was commonplace. Not anymore! When this young woman breezed down the aisles at Trader Joe's, I turned my head in her direction and watched as she sped along finding her groceries. Seeing a nun in her religious order's "habit" plus using a smart phone was a bit unusual. Instead of engaging her in conversation since she obviously was in a hurry, I settled for a stealth photo.

it's always so odd to see nuns doing everyday stuff!
ReplyDeleteYes... rare indeed. Even rarer is the Blue Nun I saw a couple of months ago. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about it but you are right. This is a rare sight these days.
ReplyDeleteOne rarely sees nuns, but that doesn't mean they're not around. The traditional habit seems to have fallen by the wayside though.
ReplyDeleteI went to parochial school and I remember seeing nuns outside of the school doing other things but not shopping.
ReplyDeleteIt is unusual these days to see them in their habits. I kind of like it and the seeming contradiction of the smart phone makes it a great picture.
ReplyDeleteThat is a real blast from the past!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I am jealous that you get to shop at Trader Joe's. Second, you are right about rarely seeing a nun in a habit. Have not seen one dressed like this in years.
ReplyDeleteYes you are right, we see them either anymore in the streets here.
ReplyDeleteLove T.J.'s. I was there today. I am old fashioned. I liked when nuns wore their habits. I also like it when nurses wore white and had starched hats.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. You don't see women in the full habit any longer. When I went to grade school, they all dressed like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo Kate! I can't remember the last time I saw a nun in a habit. Probably when my nephew graduated from his Catholic high school years ago.
ReplyDeleteGood sneak photo.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I saw a nun dressed in a habit was when we were in Rome! Wonderful shot Kate.
