A little break from the Minnesota Workers theme. . .
On a somewhat chilly Minnesota afternoon in a crowded cafe, I looked up from my journal writing and noticed two high school girls at the counter. Short, shorts, high black boots, black stockings and some interesting tattoos. I couldn't help but wondered what the reaction from my parents (way back when) would have been if I had dressed like this young woman? What would my reaction had been if this had been my daughter? Would I have followed this fashion at her age? I puzzled over those questions as I watched the girls, but after examining a number of variables, I didn't come to any definite conclusions. What's your reaction?
Tattoos are fine (although most places require you to be 18 or older) but such a short skirt on my tomboyish kidling at that age? Nope.
ReplyDeletethose shorts would be considered too short for our school's dress code...but you often see girls getting past it with there chest falling out of their shirts and butts falling out of their shorts...but that said, when i was in high school we wore dolphin shorts, which were basically running shorts but kind of on the short side...and that's when mini skirts/dresses were pretty popular, worn with little lacy anklet socks and high pumps haha...ahhh the 80's!
ReplyDeleteI do not like and never had liked even as a teenager such 'decorations'
ReplyDeleteIt is rather remarkably, I am not surprised anymore about their clothing styles. It is so different from ours and our children. In Amsterdam you see the most different styles and sometimes it is so out of the box that you have a second look to watch it. think this photo is about the last catergory.
ReplyDeleteI like your picture, but I can't find much interest in any tattoo...
ReplyDeleteWhen you're young is probably the only time you can wear your shorts and dresses so short.. I don't much like the boot combination, a pair of flats or even sandals in summer would be better with short clothes, as long as no 'personal' bits are showing :)
ReplyDeleteTats are in these days. Lots you can see. Lots you can't. I guess they are a turn on. Not for me. When asked, my son says he would never 'stain' his body with one. His squeeze however has em. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteThe design is pretty but I often wonder how will they feel about it when they are older. I can't imagine having something like this on my body now that I'm approaching 70!
ReplyDeletehigh school is too early, i'd say. college, sure. better stay in shape, ladies!
ReplyDeleteThe tattoos are certainly a big thing these days. I wouldn't go for it myself, but the writer side of me sees that and references it away for a potential character.
ReplyDeleteI see it as a desperate cry for attention, the same as green hair or nose rings.
ReplyDeleteGetting tattoos like that is a decision that will affect ones entire life. High School is way to young to young to make that kind of decision. When you are that young, you have no idea how things will change, fashion, trends, and most of all your body.
ReplyDeleteTo each his own, this one is rather pretty. Not for me though!
ReplyDeleteYour photo is tasteful but unless those are temporary tattoos...
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to get a different look when the tattoos is permanent. What if you want to wear a clashing color? You would have to cover these up, or perhaps that does not matter. To each his/her own but this is a decision for life.
is your post in honor of fashion week in Paris (smile)
ReplyDeleteOh, ouch! Those are two very big patches of skin. And two pretty permanent statements with lots of skin showing for winter time. I'd be dismayed if this were my child. It isn't. It just makes me feel old and fashion backward.
