José Martí (1853-1895):

José Martí was a Cuban patriot, freedom fighter and poet. Although he never lived to see Cuba free, he is considered the national hero.

  2. Of course we missed you! Hope you had a good time doing good things. I have heard that there are tons of old American cars rattling down Cuban streets and you have proven that to be true! Fun shots!

    1. Very close, Roger. As a revolutionist and poet, I don't think that Martí was composing music. Here is what I found:
      GUANTANAMERA
Original music by Jose Fernandez Diaz
Music adaptation by Pete Seeger & Julian Orbon
Lyric adaptation by Julian Orbon, based on a poem by Jose Marti

  8. Welcome back on the 50th anniversary of the CMC :-). I always loved it that Berkeley school kids had opportunity travel to Cuba. I love your shots of the cars and will be going through your travel adventures as I get time. What a rich culture you got to enjoy!

  10. Oooh! Lucky you! Cuba seems to be a country where some things stopped in time, cars not the least of it. I'm eager to see more! I hope you had a wonderful trip.

  18. So glad you're back and we can all go to Cuba vicariously with you! I have always wanted to go there - at least since the 1950s because I had an aunt that went for several years to ride in a rodeo with the Cisco Kid and Pancho (remember them?) in Havana, and I always loved to hear her stories about Cuba upon her return. Now I can hear yours!

  20. My friend, Linda Laitner is in Cuba the same time as you are!! Wow! I wonder if you are in the same group? I've wanted to go there-perhaps someday. I imagine that it might be quite similar in some ways to my island of Molokai.
