Yard Man

These wooden statues carved from fallen trees can be found on boulevards and in small neighborhood yards. I saw this one on a quiet block on Ashland Avenue, a place where many homes nearby beautify their plots of land with flowers and statues. A pleasure to see. For more angles of this "yard man" click here to see a collage.

  2. Tres belle statue, mais je ne vois pas ce que veux dire "Yard Man" ?

Very beautiful statue, but I do not see what want to say “Man Yard”?

  3. The carving is so detailed. The person who carved it has a lot of talent. Thanks for showing it to us.

  5. Fantastic idea of putting statues in front of your houses!

Obviously this statue was made and put there before the non-smoking campaigns.

A beautiful wood carving. As one who has done it in miniature, I can tell you it is a lot of work. I can't even imagine doing something this large. And do you know who the artists are or is it just one?

    Today—

    American Robin series starts today.

  9. Yard man... Is it the same to say "yard-statue"? Otherwise, like Olivier, I'm afraid to not understand the right meaning of it.

  10. Interesting habit of carving fallen trees. If Australians did the same there would be statues all over the place, they fell so many trees in the past 200 years!!!

This one is very nice. Wonder if it's a family portrait? LOL

  12. Amazing, never seen a statue like this during my years in the States.
(At a fair I once observed chainsaw wood carvers, I was quite surprised by their dexterity and artistry.)

  15. How wonderful this is. Presumably this is a hardwood statue and preserved in some way to withstand the weather. I love that fallen trees are carved in this way. Superb.

  18. It is incredible you can see such a carving in the middle of a garden. It would have been vandalized already here in Europe. Great capture.
