St Paul and Its Sister Cities

If you live in a large city, your local government has probably established sister cities in many parts of the world. Do you know the names and locations of them? These are St. Paul's 10 sister cities: Changsha, China - Ciudad Romero, El Salvador - Culiacan, Mexico - Hadera and Tiberias, Israel - Lawaaikamp, South Africa - Manzanillo, Mexico - Modena, Italy - Nagasaki, Japan - Neuss, Germany - Novosibirsk, Russia. I have visited two of them: Lawaaikamp, South Africa and Novosibirsk, Russia. Alas, those were the days before my digital cameras, but I shall look for photos to represent each city, and it will take awhile since my film photographs are scattered throughout the house. I have visited all but two of the countries. The ones I missed are China and Japan. I would love to know what bloggers have sister cities!!

  3. I guess Vienna has sister cities too. Need to check it out (not now, I am here on an illegal escape from work *monday!morning*).
I know and love Modena in Italy, close to Bologna, and a smaller version of it. Once I stayed at a castle nearby over Christmas, magical. And the food there, they do know how to cook.

I think most cities around us has a sister city. We don't. Not that I know about anyway. I am not sure why? I like your photograph today.

Thank you for visiting my blog yesterday and for your comments about my Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. I am into architecture today with the Brookville Community Theatre.

  5. Thanks for piquing my interest about sister cities - I looked it up & Madison's are in East Timor, El Salvador, Vietnam, Peru, Cuba, Germany, Nicaragua, Lithuania, Japan & Italy! There was a big to-do last year about twinning with Rafah in the Palestinian territories but I don't think it went anywhere. Too political.

  9. Well you've certainly tossed out an interesting challenge! I'll have to do some research, and then find an appropriate photo to go with Minneapolis' sister cities.
Your photo is wonderful and quite appropriate for the theme!

  12. Thanks to Wikipedia, I now know Vienna has these sister cities:

    Belgrade, Serbia (since 2003)
    Bratislava, Slovakia
    Budapest, Hungary
    Ljubljana, Slovenia
    Tel Aviv, Israel (since 2005)
    Warsaw, Poland
    Zagreb, Croatia
    Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine

In addition, individual Viennese districts are twinned with Japanese cities/districts, which can be looked up under the above Wikipedia link (don't want to overwhelm your comment).

Really interesting, and I like the Japanese connections, after having lived so long with Japanese Cherry Trees in Washington, DC, a sweet bond to my old home.
