An Abundance of Blossoms

The four seasons in the Midwest result in very different environments. Spring has to be the most glorious visually as trees turn green almost overnight and flowers and vegetables make their appearance. It's difficult to decide which annuals to choose because of the variety and abundance. What's your favorite garden flower?

  1. Wow, that's a nice image.
Sweetpeas are my favourite. By a mile.

Really. I only choose those that offer wildlife some nourishment. Some flowers have no insects or are not favored. I choose tickseed which one that comes up each year. If I had to choose an annual it would have to be touch-me-nots as the hummingbirds will even get some nectar from their blossoms.

A good post and the photograph is very nice. And the narrative is interesting, Kate.

  4. So colorful. I have no favorite flower and my knowledge about flower is very poor but I do like to see tulip and lily :)

  7. Seasons tend to change slowly here, but we are already feeling summer temps, and the spring flowers are going fast. I will soon be cultivating giant zinnias where the Jacob's Ladder (turned out to be Byzantine gladiolus) and snapdragons are now. The zinnias are among my favorite, because they are colorful and attract all kinds of butterflies as well.

  8. Nice photo. I can't resist flower pictures or sunrise/sunset pictures. That's either taking or viewing them.

  9. Favorite? Gosh, I can't choose. I tend to like low-maintenance plants, but if I were to list my absolute faves, we'd probably find they're not in that group! Generally, I tend towards white or blue flowers.

  10. Kate, this looks like summer's around the corner, beautiful.
I love many flowers, but if I have to name only one, I choose peonies. They have always been my birthday flowers, and I love the fact that the different varieties make for a long blooming season, in Vienna from mid April to June.
I returned a few minutes ago from a two hour walk through my immediate neighborhood (well, I was only to pick up the paper and some milk, and then I walked and walked til the frustration from my work had evaporated, now I can get back to it, all relaxed *g*). I'll post the photos in the course of the weekend, but not all 150! :-)
    Have a great weekend,
    M.
