Art in Bloom #5-ABC WEDNESDAY "P" Painting

Probably my favorite Art in Bloom interpretation of a painting; perhaps it's because I love Matisse's "Three Bathers!"  I think the florist was imaginative!

Art in Bloom #4 Magritte

Since Magritte is one of my favorite artists, I could not pass up this painting and the floral arrangement.

Art in Bloom #3 and Sunday Bridges

If you examine the arrangement carefully, you can see the florist arranger's interpretation of the painting: the bark of the tree, the bridge, water and green foliage.  Cool, huh?!

I'm also linking this post to Sunday Bridges at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo

Art in Bloom #2

Despite the crowded galleries and the poor lighting conditions for getting decent photos, I went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to photograph the event.  Florists are assigned to a piece of art and then interpret it with a floral arrangement.  The event lasts only three days because of the lifespan of the flowers so I had to brave the crowds.  I did so with a light heart because I found a terrific parking space and the temperature was 63 degrees.  Alleluia; after this terrible spring, the day was a delight.

The painting is "Tornado over St. Paul" and the arrangement amused me!!

Art in Bloom

This year's poster for my favorite event at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Friday morning I'll see if I can beat the crowds when the museum opens so I can take some photos. As soon as I have some of this year's entries, I'll delight you with the bouquets and paintings.  I've been waiting anxiously for it to begin since Sharon of Phoenix Daily Photo recently published  the photos of her city's event. Of course, I expect the snapshots and the visit to the museum to chase away the wintry-spring blues.

The right attitude!!

You have heard the phrase, "take time to stop and smell the flowers," haven't you?  When two friends and I were having breakfast at the Colossal Cafe in St. Paul, Pete came in and bent down to smell the bouquet, not once but twice.  He was a good sport and did it a third/fourth time so I could get a "candid" shot of his action that attracted my attention.  I've sent him copies, and I hope he likes them.
It was a delight to see his impromptu action, especially after all our snow during this very late Minnesota spring.

Harbingers of spring? Camera Critters

Late afternoon in St. Paul, MN on April 18, 2013: During our last snowfall (I hope) on the 18th, our crabapple tree was full of dozens of robins. Seems odd to see these harbingers of spring in the midst of falling snow.  Poor things!  Our bird feeders were surrounded by cardinals and sparrows.

Friday Fences

Obviously this photo was not taken recently.  I am hungry for summer colors and flowers; this bright patch of blossoms, located on the front lawn of the Governor's Mansion taken last August, gives me hope that the weather is bound to change!

Strong Native American Woman-ABC Wednesday "N"

Powwow Revival

Strong and Beautiful
Watchful as the Dancers Danced
Awaiting her Turn

From a neighborhood newpaper: The sound of American Indian drumming, singing, ankle bells and eagle bone whistles will be heard on the Macalester College campus for the first time in 20 years.  That is when the student group Proud Indigenous People for Education (PIPE) will be reviving a Macalester tradition, the spring powwow, which has been dormant since 1991....Sophomore student Brook LaFloe spoke of the diminished presence of American Indians on the campus..."Macalester's President is with us," Brook said.  "He wants to bring in more Indian students...."

Sunday Bridges

Although we are back in St. Paul, I couldn't pass up the chance to show a photo of the
Arthur F. Ravenel, Jr. bridge and a view of the flight deck of the USS Yorktown.  Both are beautiful!

Strong but Silent

Although he gave me permission to take his photograph, this man definitely is the strong and silent type.  I tried to "chat him up" but he wasn't having any part of it.  He probably has many strong life stories to relate but I had to respect his silence.

All men were made by the Great Spirit Chief. They are all brothers.

Dan, the Man

Here  is Dan, the Man
A treat to see him again!
I'm back in St. Paul.

Dan the Man is one of the most delightful employees at Turtle Bakery.  Both friendly and charming!  Good to see him again after our snowbird time in South Carolina.
