Unwelcome Sight

These look good, but they are an unwelcome sight.  The Green Bay side of the Door County Peninsula has already been overbuilt by developers that entice the tourist trade, and, unfortunately, it is an increasing trend on the Lake Michigan side. The County has lost much of its charm from the area I knew as a kid.  I still prefer the quaint, small cottage-like buildings and old-fashioned resorts in the villages that line the peninsula.  Progress? Sigh!!

  2. Down here as they are building they are taking away public access to the lakes. Almost every part of Lake Ray Hubbard is surrounded by private property with no trespassing signs. Unless you have a boat and can use the boat dock you are out of luck.

  3. It's everywhere. If it's empty, construction will happen.

  8. Welcome to my world. I can't believe how much growth there has been around here.

  9. I hope the communities out there get ahead of the curve by enacting thoughtful zoning and building codes to put the growth where the community wants it and keeps it away from places where the community doesn't want it.

  10. Yes that is a horror that ever ongoing building of houses at nature places. They have to stop doing that.

  11. Although the coastline was eventually protected this is the story of much of California. There are areas with thoughtful zoning but most local elected officials zone for tax dollars so new construction and allied services (Strip mall? Welcome!) get a red carpet and quick approval.

  12. They don't look too bad Kate, but cottages would have looked sooo much better.

  13. No protection of the coastline? What are the city council or the State doing ?
How I understand how you feel!
