Place of Interest-ABC WEDNESDAY "P"

A Place of Interest Where a Person of Interest
Lived and Wrote a Famous Novel

F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of our boys, ya know, lived in this house on 599 Summit Avenue when he wrote his first novel. In the coming weeks I will post a few of the homes in which he lived and the places where he would hang out.

Scott had met Zelda, his future wife, while serving in the army. Originally she had not wanted to marry Scott because of his uncertain financial future, but after the publication of the novel, she apparently changed her mind. They did not remain long in Minnesota and led a busy, often debt-ridden existence, as international icons of the Jazz Age.

The first non-Minnesota person who correctly identifies the title of this novel will get a postcard from St. Paul from me!!

PS.  Don't forget to post a photo tomorrow for the May 1st Theme: Squares

    1. You definitely were "the early bird!" I didn't publish until early this afternoon so that I would give others a chance to guess or show their knowledge, but now the secret is out. . .you won, and I'll mail your postcard when I get your address.

  2. Great idea to show a place of interest for P. I wasn't sure if my guess was correct about his first novel so I looked it up and I was wrong. I won't cheat and put the answer down because I had to look it up. Carver, ABCW-Team

  4. "This Side of Paradise".....if I'm not mistaken. I love that house. Did you happen to see the Woody Allen movie "Midnight in Paris"? For some reason that was the first think I thought of when I read your post.

  5. Gosh what an amazing piece of architecture Kate.. not sure but I think it was This Side of Paradise.. the Great Gatsby was my favourite. I've just started re reading some of Ernest Hemingway's novels.. the style is so different from modern day writers.

  13. A very interesting home. Makes me wonder if the rock/stone was quarried from the banks of the Mississippi River.

  16. I have the advantage of reading the other commenters' comments before it is my turn. EG, Sharon and Grace are all smart girls, so I am going with This Side of Paradise, too.

    Gorgeous home for F. Scott.

  18. Surely if he was unpublished he couldn't afford to live in the whole house so I'm wondering if maybe he just rented a room???

Postscript: I must admit that I didn't know his first book (although I knew it wasn't Gatsby) so when I looked it up I see that 599 Summit Avenue was the home of his parents!

    1. I'll soon take y'all on a photo tour of F. Scott's homes, which were numerous. His family moved a good deal around the city.
