Door Knockers #3

Some of you may recall my penchant for door knockers, some of which I have posted before.  I badly want one for my front door.  If I cannot find one in St. Paul, I just might have to go back to South Carolina to find one!  Do you prefer the color or black and white photo?

ANOTHER QUESTION:  I went in search for one of these and found a similar rather small brass lion's head in a architectural salvage shop on Selby Avenue.  I wonder if I should buy it, polish it up and then keep searching for one that is larger?  What do you think?

  1. This is a firm knocker, wouldn't dare to touch it.

  2. Why must I choose one over the other? I like them both.

Buy it and polish it up, it will make you smile.

  3. Rather than returning to South Carolina, I think you should return to Santa Fe and buy a chili door knocker, which on of our friends have.

I like the color photo better, not for the door knocker, which looks fine in black and white, but because the wood is such a warm color.

  4. I think you should wait until you find one that is juuuuuust right Kate..I think this time I prefer the colour, for the same reasons as Dave, that warm wood is gorgeous.

  6. Hmm..I usually prefer color but this works very well in black and white. You've posed quite a question. I would judge by the price. If it's over $20.00 maybe wait and find the perfect one.

  9. The black & white is nice, but I love the warm color of the wood & the contrast with the knocker. Do you love, love, LOVE the salvage yard knocker? Are you sure it's all brass & will polish up nicely? Then get it. If you don't feel truly excited about getting it, then pass. There's nothing wrong with extending your quest for THE perfect knocker. . .and what a fun post when you can finally show it off.

  11. I like the rich color in the top shot. A standard for me is if I am still thinking about an item 24 hours later, I go get it. If I'm not, it wasn't the right one. And I'm all about searching till I get the 'right' feeling. Sometimes it takes a while to find it.

  12. Kate, wait until you find the right one. Every day you see the substandard one, you will be reminded that it is substandard.

I love the color photo. The doorknocker is black and the door is brown. The color separates them. In the monochrome, they are both shades of black and there is no separation.

  14. I like the beautiful wood color. This is a nice one but I have never seen one like it before and I have done some snooping around in the antique shops. That green cowboy that I posted while I was away was not a door knocker as it had no moving parts but it was on the tack room door and would have made a cute one.

  15. It is already adorable. I even love it that way. But I guess if you want it to look better, just polish it.
