Protective Vests-ABC Wednesday "P"

Recently a combined demonstration and fund raiser to get more money to buy protective vests for Twin City metropolitan police dogs was held in our neighborhood.  Because some of these loyal and hardworking canines have been seriously injured (some have died) by criminals with knives and other deadly weapons, protective vests are essential.  The purchase price is costly. . . $950.00.

A wonderful young man, Jim, a beautician at Euphoria arranged for the demonstration and the Salon donated yummy snacks and refreshments as well as a silent auction and a raffle for 6 hair appts. Jim donated 5% of his income that day toward the purchase of a vest(s). Patrons were generous and the result was fantastic.  If you  would like to learn more about this national effort and to make a tax deductable donation go here. .  .  . PRONTO!
Reminder:  The theme day for November is "Heights."

  4. Great post about a great cause, Kate. I personally know and love two K-9 officers. The men who work with them are good guys, too.

    1. I am confused by your comment; Euphoria is a salon in St. Paul. What is the connection with Jim?

  7. It is a wonderful thing and every police/war dog should be outfitted with them. The price, though, is outrageous! About 10 times what they should cost. Whenever the government is involved it seems the private sector steps in to rip us off like those $4000 airplane toilets. :(

  8. I agree with Lowell. I know that the equipment that the law enforcement personal need is way more expensive than it should be. Someone is making a killing on it. I love to watch the police dogs in action during the demonstrations that they have here. They are amazing.

I would never want to be on the wrong end of one of their attacks.

  15. Wow - $950 is steep, but a fraction of what it costs to put a dog like that into service. How nice of the hairdresser to arrange a fundraiser. People tend to think that needed equipment always comes, when needed, from "somewhere." Sorta like the extra materials teachers bring to classrooms.
