Unlike today's rainy and gloomy weather, here is a photo of a recent and very quiet morning in St. Paul. Few cars on the freeway but sunny and bright with fall edging toward winter. Below is the unsupported marble dome of the Capitol with the four golden horses representing earth, air, fire, and water. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert who modeled it after the Basilica in Rome. and the dome is the second largest in the world after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Wikipedia has a complete description of the Capitol building; if interested, go here.

What a beautiful picture to give us on your return. Love the fall colors. We still have a month before anything turns, lol. Glad you are feeling better.

Soooo glad you are back! I remember driving around this building on a visit to St. Paul some years ago. If I'm not mistaken, there is a beautiful cathedral not far away. I stopped there too. I love that top photo with the trees turning colors. Very pretty.

ReplyDeleteTwo interesting St. Paul icons. Nice to see you back.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid in the long ago, on a sixth grade field trip, we were allowed to climb the small stairway leading to the golden horses and stand by them. I even have old photos I took of them and the basilica in the distance. I don't believe anyone's allowed to go up there now ... liability, I suppose. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are much better, the fall colours I haven't seen yet here. The leaves are falling down alraedy, but are still green. Strange weather.
