Monday Mornings Groceries

© visual st paul
This is what I do Monday mornings.  A good friend of mine volunteers as a cook for Monday Night Supper at a Minneapolis church, which provides dinners for homeless kids and young adults.  Many businesses donate left-over food that the cooks create into wonderful meals.  She and I go to a local bakery each Monday morning to pick up the donated bread and pastries.  Alex, the young man, usually helps us cart the food to her car and then loads it in the trunk for us.  Community service at its best...all around.  No, I do not cook with her, but enjoy our Monday morning jaunts to collect the food after we enjoy our own coffee and pastries.

  9. I came over because of the wonderful poem about the kingfisher that you posted in the comment section of East Gwillimbury cameragirl's blog. I absolutely loved that. What a wonderful thing to do on a Monday morning. It seems as if it would start your week off in the perfect way. by giving.

  13. Enjoying one's volunteerism is a triple bonus, for the cause, for the recipients, and for the donors/volunteers.

  14. That's a good program to be involved in. A local bakery where I live donates everything left over to food banks and homeless kitchens each day since they sell daily fresh baked goods. Carver, ABC Wed. Team

  18. So good to see how much they're donating! I really hate to see anything wasted and food is one of the worst.

What a nice way to start off a week, giving back.

I really like to think that most restaurants donate their leftover food to charity.

  22. Great to lend a helping hand whenever you can. I haven't yet made my monthly donation to the church's food pantry, and time is running out. Thanks for the reminder!

  24. What a wonderful thing you do. God Bless You! This morning I stopped by a new little coffee café in our town, and had an orange/almond Crescent pastry. To die for!!! How nice you get a pastry and coffee as you deliver the goods.
