Parrot Rescue Update!

Last week I posted a story and some photos of a Mazatlán, México rescue effort for 500 confiscated parrots, 272 of which are babies. Volunteers Nancy and Paul have updated their experience with the 50 baby birds that are receiving their care until the parrots are mature enough to be released. Please visit their blog on Countdown México for the latest news and more photos, one of which I've posted above. Take some time to peruse their blog, too, to learn of their experiences as full-time expats in Paradise!

  1. I am exhausted just reading their feeding ordeal!
They do look comical, don't they...especially the fat-bellied one ;-)

  4. Thanks, Kate for the kind words!

One not-so-happy update is that we lost one of the little guys last night. He had a kind of weird way of holding his head and we think that he may have had some deformities that contributed to his failure to thrive.

The rescue coordinator says that one week of captivity is where you can really see those who are going to make it.

Thanks again, and cross your fingers for the rest to cross the one week hurdle healthy and happy.

  6. Is it normal that they don't have more feathers? I have always dreamed of having a parrot. I had a boyfriend in Austin, TX whose parrot told me each of his phone call.

Gosh I hate to see people take these but am happy they might have a chance since they have been rescued. A group of dedicated people makes the difference almost always.

Wow. I am so glad this couple are helping save these parrots. The world needs more dedicated people like them as these kinds of babies sure need a helping hand.

I went to their blog and left a comment. I hope they know their work is appreciated.

  9. Good work. Sorry to hear they lost one but perhaps the others are stronger.
They are not so pretty yet. I guess their pin feathers have to come in first.

  14. Maybe I'm at the right place now ?
I beg your pardon, these parrots seems ready to go in an oven.
I'm not sure there will be enough to eat only for one person with one of them, they seem so thin without any feather.
