Review for Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at Como Park
by Citysearch Staff
The glittering dome of Palm House is a promise of elegance (and year-round warmth) within.
In Short
Half an acre under glass, the elegant conservatory is a celebration of the living earth. Plentiful collections of orchids, bromeliads, palms, ferns and bonsai overflow from the six indoor garden rooms into two outdoor gardens. In winter, its steamy glass dome is a perfect escape from Minnesota's rigorous climate. May through September, enjoy the Como Ordway Memorial Japanese Garden.
Know Before You Go
Photography is allowed, but tripods and lengthy photo shoots are not permitted. Special shutterbug days are held five times a year.
The Extras
Sign up for an art class in the garden, using the most exotic live models you'll find in these northern climes.
When To Go
The tea house in the Japanese Garden offers a traditional Chanoyu tea ceremony several times throughout the summer. Call ahead to find out the times and to get a reservation.

That is so beautiful! I wish we had something similar here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a luxurious building for fine plants. It must be enjoyable to walk there and see all those nature arts.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Kate - without snow !
Lovely building!!! It looks like its NY cousin. ;) (I just posted the Conservatory too)
ReplyDeleteIt is one of my favourite destination in the botanical garden: in the winter, you're in the tropics and in the summer, there's a nice little breeze. And some brumization.
I wish I could visit this place! It reminds me of the wonderful greenhouse in Kew Gardens in London, a dream to a gardener!
ReplyDeleteyes if i war around that would be place to visit, looks and sounds very inviting.
ReplyDeletehave a great snowy day Kate!
A very beautiful palm house ... and obvioulsy needed in your (non Mexican) climate ... as well as here!
ReplyDeleteIt's a little reminicent of Kew or Syon House, which was on Richmond Daily Photo yesterday. I adore palm houses.
ReplyDeleteThe conservatory looks much like the one we have in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteI hope you attend the shutterbug day and take lots of photos.
Hope you get over your jet lag and get into the swing again.
l'architecture de ce conservatoire est superbe. très belle photo.
ReplyDeleteThe architecture of the conservatory is superb. Lovely picture.
I love the looks of the building & your composition of the shot.
ReplyDeleteI think going to a "hothouse" with the snow outside will be good for you after Mexico :)
This conservatory at Como Park is one of the nicest I've visited. The spaciousness within I find to be unusual. And this photo ... what a contrast outside vs. in.
ReplyDeleteit certainly looks better maintained than ours, and I bet you don't need pepper spray to go there! I also battle with links in comments, but yours worked fine! I am so green (in the jealous sense) because I would LOVE to do the art classes with exotic plants that you mentioned, sounds great. It is loony how hard it is to paint en plein air here, just not safe to sit around outdoors for too long like a sitting duck!
ReplyDeleteFor the awesome information
ReplyDeleteI'll be back in a bit.
Thanks again!
Have a safe and fruitful 2011 :o)
