St. Paul (and "that other city", Minneapolis)is enjoying an exhibition "of dinosaur figures that are being painted by local artists and placed throughout the Twin Cities from May 28th through September 3. The dinosaurs are 8 feet long and 4.5 feet wide. Eighty of them will be placed in St. Paul and 20 in Minneapolis. Several will be shown at the state fair. Then, like the 'Peanuts' statues of recent years, many of the Dinos will be auctioned off by the non-profit Capital City Partnership."(Avenues: Saint Paul's News and Arts Monthly, June 2007. They are delightful and individually named to represent different establishments or organizations. I've discovered six of them already. As soon as I can take a photo of a complete figure, I'll post it because they are a hoot. Too many are placed in positions that make it difficult to take a full photo. Stay tuned!

I like the watermelony one with the toque. The break-down is funny: 80 in SP and 20 in Mpls. Why not half-half, or just have them in SP?
ReplyDeleteIf you can't fit a whole dino in one frame, maybe you can try to take several photos and "stitch" them together?

Oh, dear, I love the one with the spectacles, but cute are all of them. We had bears here in Vienna last year, I remember cows all over Salzburg, lions in Bad Ischl, and Pandas in Washington, DC.

How fun! We had Cow Parade here last summer and it was interesting to see what the different artists came up with. Some were quite imaginative, and I only missed 5 out of 100 (and those were actually outside Madison and difficult to get to--many are featured on my blog). I hope you enjoy your dino hunt, but as Peter said, be safe!

ReplyDeleteI have yet to see one, but Sophie called out, 'hey daddy, did you see the dinosaur'? as we motored around Lake Calhoun yesterday....I'll pay more attention this afternoon, and I even have the camera in the car!
