Before it gets much colder, forcing the butterflies to flee, I need to dust off my Canon and do a photo shoot. I love my old iPhone 5s but it just doesn't cut it!

 My very favorite store on the Island

One of the kinds of looms that students use to learn to weave. The barn below houses students in a dormitory setting in an old converted barn across the street from the shop where students work often is displayed and sold (to customers like me!). Noticed that the barn displays a quilt pattern, a trend that appears on barns throughout Door County.

Handwoven Scarf

On  September 22, I posted a photo of some colorful yarns that I photographed (badly!) at Sievers Fiber Arts store on Washington Island, Door County, Wisconsin while vacationing there in August. Tomorrow I will give you a bit more information  about this remarkable store that also has classes in weaving and other crafts.

First place: Sculpture-"21st Century Nude Reclining"

The biggest draw for me every year at the Minnesota State Fair in August is the Fine Arts Building, which has a juried collection of art of all genres created by Minnesota artists and craftsmen/women. One of my many favorites this year was the sculpture by Lester Hoikka, selling for a mere $6.000.

Ole' Man River!

Since my calendar says it is "the first day of Autumn, "I decided to check my archives for an appropriate photo.  My lovely Mississippi River is a blaze of colors in the fall, which is fast approaching.  Instead of complaining about the approaching winter, I decided to celebrate what nature offers us, beginning with this reminder of the lovely scenes that are rapidly approaching!  I celebrate that I live within walking distance of this magnificent river!

Yarns

I finally got a new computer, A MacBook Pro, which is similar to my old one but I have a lot to learn.  I need to practice more with editing because this photo does not really reflect the true bright colors of the yarn. Guess I need to practice more with my camera, too.  Sigh! But, it feels good to be back with CDP!

Longfellow Garden this summer, 2019

Last September I discovered Longfellow Garden, a treasure that everyone else seemed to have known about except me.  I went back there last spring and again on Saturday.  I am not disappointed and know that I will return many more times before the snow flies!

Backyard Garden

My neighbor's backyard is extraordinary.  Recently it was featured in a local newspaper, and when I read that the same newspaper is asking for nominations for a "favorite garden" I knew that "Shangri-la" should be nominated.  A brief description and photos need to be submitted as well, and I wish that I had a better camera and technique to take photos worthy of this wonderful oasis. I will post more photos next week so you can enjoy the scope of the garden.

Rainbow Condos

A week ago a friend and I took a paddleboat down the Mississippi River, enjoying the trees and foliage along the bank with an occasional sight of manmade structures: bridges and buildings along the way.  On Shepard Road in Saint Paul, the row of condos in varied shade of white, grey, yellow and orange reminded me of Rainbow Row in Charleston, SC.  Architecturally unlike and very dissimilar, the colors in both cities are pleasing to the eye.

Why not make this personal?! Since my birthday is September 11, I think that this astrology sign is perfect for my Theme Day contribution It also works for Mural Monday. How great is that?!

The mural is from my 2014 archives, taken in a park in Santa Fe, New Mexico; I wonder if it is still there? Certainly deserves another trip to find out, don't you think?

Woven tapestry-Native Women #6

At a distance this exquisite tapestry looked like a vibrant painting. Remarkable weaving on the part of the Hope artist! I only got a photo of part of the diptych, but you can appreciate its beauty from this photograph.

Fashionable Frocks-Native Women #5

I didn't record the information about this lovely dress, but from my vast store of knowledge after going twice to the exhibit, I assume (perhaps correctly) that this one is probably from a Pacific Northwest tribe.  To check my assumption, I'll just have to return for a third visit, which I intend to do! I have not seen quite as much public interest in an exhibit as this one has generated!!

Friendships- -Far and Wide

Benefits of Mazatlán, México: There is a special group in Mazatlán that help one another to identify lists of things that can be found in that city. Sometimes these benefits extend far and wide: friendship is one of them. After a brief encounter at a musical event last March in Maz, Kitty Cahill and I connected in St Paul, Minnesota and spent the day last Wednesday floating down the Mississippi River, on a "river raft" (paddleboat), enjoying the scenery, forming a friendship, reminiscing about our favorite city and enjoying an important benefit of Mazatlán. 

The High Bridge

The photo above is not slanted. The High Bridge, which recently was renovated, rises high above the Mississippi River and appears tilted to accommodate the height of the land on either side of the river in that particular spot in St, Paul.
