A different kind of landmark than that I had posted yesterday. Mickey's Diner is a legend in downtown St. Paul. Oh, I could tell you stories I have been told by people who have grown up in St. Paul. Since I was not here then, I can't check the veracity of the tales, but they certainly are interesting.

Mickey's Diner

I love the look, its not retro its original.
ReplyDeleteYou're not wrong Kate..couldn't be more different. I'm a bit partial to turrets..but then again retro diners :) Really enjoyed looking at the old pictures of the interior, I cam imagine some of the stories would be rather entertaining :)
ReplyDeleteThere were some great old photos on that site. This place is such a classic. It reminds me of a sandwich shop in Quincy where I grew up that I would frequent and my parents went there when they were in high school. It wasn't an old dining car like this one but, it is still landmark in Quincy. I wonder if they have a specialty that people keep going back for.
ReplyDeleteI Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic! So many of these old places were sadly torn down in the name of "redevelopment." It's wonderful to see ones that have been preserved.
ReplyDeleteLove it, but unfortunately this diner I missed in my younger years!
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to "Shutters And Boards." You'll see Scotty Turner with the mike, and I'm assuming he's explaining how the song came to be. Scotty was mainly a producer and worked with all the old-time country greats!
Oops! I forgot the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEt52m_dOMk
ReplyDeleteNeat! There was one in Washington DC which looked a lot like this when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of classic movies.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I don't see in my part of the world.
ReplyDeleteGreat diner!!! I know I've seen it in a bunch of movies!!!
