Camera Critters-Goats...Part of the old sod??

"Al Johnson’s is an authentic Swedish family owned restaurant where you can find goats grazing the sod roof. It's quite a sight, and it's made this place one of the most famous restaurants in Door County, WI. Inside the casual, carpeted dining room, young ladies in Scandinavian garb dish out limpa bread and Swedish meatballs.

The menu consists of a variety of Swedish fare, from pancakes with lingonberries to Swedish meatballs, whitefish, sandwiches, salads, and a variety of hot and cold plates."

To learn more about the history of the restaurant, to see the photo gallery and learn the history of the goats who are on the roof of the restaurantgo here.

    Good morning, Kate :)
It`S rainy Saturday here, but we need it now and then.
I have been watching your photo and those beautiful animals are like statues.
Swedish food is very much like ours but they have their own special food, they call it "Surströmming (pronounced [sʉ̌ːʂtrømːiŋ], "soured (Baltic) herring"), known colloquially as Scandinavian rotten fish, is a northern Swedish dish consisting of fermented Baltic herring",tells Wikipedia.
I have never tasted or even seen it, but you can ask , if they in that restaurant know it :)

  3. Goats on the roof? We ate at an excellent restaurant in Paris about 10 years ago that was named Boeuf sur le Toit, which translated as beef on the roof. There were no cows on the roof.

  4. Lovely shot, Kate. Dave from Costa Rica DP (I mean Tamarindo) told you had goats on the blog today and snap, same on Monte Carlo. I used to keep goats when I lived in Wales and in Tasmania. Lovely creatures so long as they don't get near your lettuces...

  14. It was a great photo even before I knew the context of "goats on a roof" -- Really? on the roof? Amazing!

  16. Don't call ME an "old sod"...

All a bit Chagall-esque, if you ask me. They'll be playing violins next...
