Fish on Friday

Photographing through a butcher's case is not the best way to show a fish, but this big fella just begged to be showcased as an example of tasty treats for Lent, if that's an important period in your liturgical calendar. I have a deep love for fish of any kind, and I attribute it to our family's Friday night fish meals.  For a special treat, we were sometimes taken to a local restaurant for a fish fry, which is one of my fond growing-up memories.  I still like going out to enjoy a fish meal on Fridays,

  1. I've talked with many fish and they have a deep and abiding dislike for Lent, for Fridays and for anything Roman Catholic. I think I'm beginning to see why. One fish said, "Hey, we're God's creatures, too, and in fact, we're cousins to you homo sapiens. You'd think you could find something else to eat."

That's true. I swear. In fact it all happened in St. Paul at the Cathedral in the vestibule during early morning Mass on Friday, the 13th of February, 2015. I don't know how the fish got there, maybe swam up through the holy water? Or another possibility is that I may have dreamed this. I vaguely remember attending a wild party on February 12. :))

  3. I love fish and eat it as often as I can and it doesn't matter what day. Yesterday was fresh mackerel. I agree, this fish had to have its photo taken :)

  6. Did you know you generally only see whole fish like this when they're very fresh? The eyes get cloudy the longer they're dead. Fish tacos for dinner tonight. A favorite.
