Shiba Inus

I saw this beautiful Shiba Inu in the parking lot at Walgreens. A handsome young father with his infant son was waiting outside the store for his wife to emerge with their purchases.  As DH and I left,  he told me that I paid an embarrassing amount of attention to the dog while ignoring the baby.
Must mend my photographic ways.  Never did get a shot of the little boy!

The next day I saw a Shiba Inu puppy at a different location.  I think that they may be becoming a favorite breed.

George, the frisky puppy

Our son has a rescue dog that is part Shiba, and who spends a great deal of time at our house as a companion to our sweet dog Maggi.  They are both great companions and really love one another.

The Shiba Inu (柴犬 ?) is the smallest of the six original and distinct spitz breeds of dog from Japan.
A small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain, the Shiba Inu was originally bred for hunting. It looks similar to and is often mistaken for other Japanese dog breeds like the Akita Inu or Hokkaido, but the Shiba Inu is a different breed with a distinct blood line, temperament and smaller size than other Japanese dog breeds.] It is one of the few ancient dog breeds still in existence in the world today. 1. Very cute dogs! Maybe the baby's parents were not offended as some really don't like like strangers - even very nice ones - taking photos of them.

  8. They are really nice-looking. But I'll bet they're expensive, too. Not to worry about the attention you gave that first one...dogs are almost always cuter than kids! :)

  9. Haven't heard of that breed before and I'm surprised that none have turned up at our dog park.

  12. I know of the Akita, but not the Shiba. George is especially cute. (And, you know, some parents don't like having their child's picture taken.) Is it Lexi that's part Shiba?

  14. I chuckled over your ga-ga attitude over the dogs while ignoring the human baby! I woulda done the same thing! Remember the Shiba pups web cam set up by the couple I believe in California several years back where you could constantly view the antics of maybe 10 puppies in their small apartment? I tuned in several times a day because it was so much fun. Such beautiful dogs but a little big for my wants.
