Crafts
One of the pleasures in life is walking into a yarn shop. The textures and colors appeal to my senses of sight and touch. For years I have dreamed about learning how to weave; I am fascinated with textiles as works of art, and I would like to have the pleasure of designing and making something on a loom. My mother had a huge floor loom, but foolishly I did not learn from her. Now years later I have decided to give it a go, and have enrolled in a class at the Yarnery on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. What shall I weave?

ReplyDeletehow exciting! i l love these shots and the idea that you are about to begin something so new and yet so much a part of your life. do you remember what your mother wove? was there something that gave her great pleasure to make? perhaps you should start with something simple. but i think you should try to weave some of the stories of your life into the things you make at the loom. good luck!

ReplyDeleteWonderful assortment of colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful yarns! Reminds me of my days of doing crewel embroidery when I divided everything into palettes of colors.
ReplyDeleteStart with a scarf or maybe a table runner so you have the pleasure of accomplishment fairly early on. I love all those colours!

ReplyDeleteI have had big floor looms in the past, but have sold them off in favor of something more portable--my knitting needles! Watch my blog, Kate, for some dyeing of mohair, silk, and wool coming up soon. I plan to do some spinning this summer out on the patio. I'm excited to hear about your weaving experiences.
ReplyDeleteYou actually stayed in the little red house? I hope more photos are coming up!
