We have neighbors who decorate their house MUCH too early. Thought I'd beat them to the draw this year.
Although most of our neighbors are friendly, helpful and considerate of one another, we have one family who is uncharacteristically quite reserved and keep to themselves to a degree which is almost antisocial. This baffles those of us who are more gregarious. At the bottom of their porch steps they have two lion statues, which I amusingly consider a bit ostentatious for our neighborhood. Three years ago, in the dead of night I tied two huge red ribbons around the lions' necks. The year after that I placed two green Christmas wreaths over the lions' heads and around their necks. Not a word was said to us but to their credit, the middle-of-the-night secret offerings remained for the season. Last year I waited too long so they attached the wreaths before I had a chance to devise something new. But, AHA, this year I visited Goodwill and I found two red Santa Claus hats that I recently attached at 4 am--a very late night is necessary to avoid detection because of their very bright yard light. I have more plans...wait until Mardi Gras!!
It's never too early for Christmas - particularly if it involves a prank!

ReplyDeleteKate!!!!! That made me laugh so much, I just got this visual of you creeping around in the dead of night giggling to yourself! Looooooove it! and you know what I bet they love it too. they probably look forward to it each year to see what you're going to do this time.. Best Christmas story I've heard in along while...way to go Kate!!
ReplyDeleteoh, kate, these little night adventures are so delicious. i would love to have you as a neighbor.
ReplyDeleteKate, I had no idea you were so seasonally devious! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThat is as fun as taking a neighbors yard gnome on vacation and sending pictures of it in different places. Will we see pictures of the lions?
ReplyDeleteWe have a neighbor that are quite unsocial. We decided they must be in the witness protection program.
Kate, you are cracking me up. It's hard to picture you up at 4 a.m, trespassing!!! What must your neighbors think. Ah, they are probably nice people, just private!
ReplyDeleteVery funny! I hope they don't read your blog, else the secret's out. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a rascal, Kate.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine! This made me laugh so much. I needed that. We just don't want to see a mug shot on here one day.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very funny person! And I'm glad to have made your acquaintance!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a great Thanksgiving!

ReplyDeleteWe think more alike that I would have guessed! Your middle-of-the-night "prank" reminds me of the eagles at Hamline Univ on Snelling Ave which were always getting painted.... now they're gone I think!
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying Thanksgiving especially with today's Packer win!
Love it, Kate!
