My Favorite Neighborhood Spot

"If there's a book you really want to read but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it."
~Toni Morrison

The history of libraries is pretty fascinating, dating back centuries to the first one, probably in China, which was private. Public-funded lending libraries in the United States took a long time to get organized. To find out more about libraries, check this site: The Straight Dope.

Volunteers in my branch library help the regular staff by reading to kids, placing books on shelves, assisting at special functions, and gardening the library grounds.  I've spent many happy hours there.

  3. I used to love libraries here, now there is a lot of burocracy involved even to have a book...

  4. With the economy struggling, libraries are seeing their statistics steadily increase. Our public library is the town hub where people meet, study, discuss, discover, and seek diversions of all sorts...unfortunately our library too is suffering fiscally and has been forced to cut hours and staff.

  6. Nothing like a good library! We're fortunate in that the Marion County library system is just excellent, with a number of branches that are well-staffed.

  7. I love libraries too! When I lived in France, you had to pay a yearly membership fee to use the library services. I didn't really like that idea. It was around 50 euros a year. Which isn't really that much, but I decided not to join b/c their selection of English books didn't warrant the fee.

Yours looks very inviting with that pink crape myrtle.

  8. The organization I work for has a joint project with another organization for a program called "Raise a Reader". It's a very worthwhile project that will hopefully go nationwide soon.
