Pay Attention!!

  1. I would think that Lake Superior is too cold for swimming. I wonder if the temperature is the condition to which the sign refers.

    1. It's the rip currents that can be very dangerous. I agree that Superior is very cold, but there are always sturdy (and foolhardy) swimmers that brave the temperature.

  3. Glad I saw your explanation and reply to Dave. I thought maybe the lake had become contaminated for some reason!

  5. I can see the warning below in regards to the currents. And they can be dangerous. Our city river (with it's underground caves) should also have warnings like these.

  8. I always heed the signs but usually see people that don't. It's good that people are warned.

  10. Glad to hear it's because of rip currents as I also thought of contamination....much better that it's natural causes!!! Here in California's Yosemite National Park, people regularly ignore warning signs such as this. I took my granddaughters to Yosemite Valley a few years ago and it just happened to be the day that 3 people went over a fall, to their deaths. It's my understanding that one of them was the one who ignored the sign, the other two went in after her/him in an attempted rescue...tragic loss of life, from ignoring warning signs.

  11. I lived in Duluth as a child. I remember how polluted some of the lake areas were down in the city. But, I also remember how cold the water was, even in the summer. You can't swim in Lake Superior...that's like trying to sleep on a block of ice! :)

  12. Last weekend a couple of kids in inner tubes, then their mother who tried to save them, got swept some distance out in Port Townsend Bay. The Sheriff's Dept.had to use their brand new rescue boat to go out and fetch them. I'm sure there were signs warning them...

  16. Rip currents on those lakes can be treacherous. They really are inland seas, just with fresh water.

  17. That is sad to see. But, it wouldn't affect me much. I like heated pools.

  18. That could run a day.

  19. So sad when the waters are polluted and no one can enjoy them.
    To answer your question.
It was my Daughter in Law's brother's 60th birthday and when he told his sons that he was engaged to our niece.
We are thrilled and now we are REALLY family all the way around. (:0)
