The Brooks Building

The Brooks Building completed in 1892 in Lowertown St Paul is probably my favorite downtown building.   It is a Romanesque Revival style at  59.96 feet tall, with four above ground floors and one below ground.  I love the warm sandstone facade with the arched windows, columns, and carved window frames. It is solely commercial use, but I would love to see it converted to condos and lofts with  the third floor reserved for me!!

  1. Is that the whole third floor? I bet the building looks even prettier in the snow.

    1. Yes, Janey; the corner building is narrow as buildings go.

    2. Hello Kate, I've been following your blog for almost 6 months now without leaving any comment so I decided to quickly say hi today, just so you know you've got a fan somewhere. LOL. Your blog makes sense to me just like http://danieluyi.com, another similarly interesting blog that I'm also a fan of.

      Keep it up.

  4. We were away in Ethiopia for 3 weeks, so I am just now catching up with your blog. You should be grateful that your dogs tear only newspaper when you are out a long time. Julie's mother's dog's separation anxiety attacks (which appear to be a thing of the past) included scratching the door, door frame, cabinets, etc.

  5. As much as I love living in the country, I've always thought living in just such a building might be wonderful ... for a time. I'll take the top floor ! :)

  6. This building is so much more romantic looking than the newer buildings that are made from slabs or poured concrete.

  7. It's certainly been well preserved. But I'd be in competition with you for the third-floor penthouse!

  12. Easy to see why this is one of your favorite buildings. The artisians that crafted the façade were quite gifted.

  14. Wow! That's a beautiful building, and it appears well taken care of! I love the arches on "your" windows and the trim on the second floor is gorgeous. So when you move in, I'm picturing a bakery (croissants & such) and café on the ground floor. And a book store nearby?

  16. It's one of my favorites, too... I have long dreamed of having a quilt studio in that building. (Heck, why don't I just move in.) Save a space for me?

  19. I think the building is handsome and agree a condo on the third floor could be very nice.
