I assume that these two towers are part of the St. Paul city water system. I researched sites to discover what they are and their function, but could find nothing that identified them or any facts about them. Because they are located across a parking lot from the old landmark brick water tower (which I'll show you next week) I assumed, hopefully accurately, that these two also are part of the system.
Can you tell how bleak and wintery the day was when I photographed them?
There's plenty of water there. For me it's unusual to see two towers close together.
ReplyDeleteThey look like very modern water towers, nice picture.
ReplyDeleteIndustrial scenes sometimes make compelling subjects for photographs, as your study of these water towers shows.
ReplyDeleteOne of my all time favorite pictures is a remarkable photo that Sharon of Phoenix Daily Photo took of a staircase and its shadow on the edge of an oil tank. The curvature of the tank elongated the shadow in a way that is mesmerizing.
I would guess the same thing about these two. When I was a little kid, I asked my dad why water towers had to be up high like that and proceeded to make me understand the need to create water pressure so the water would actually flow out of our faucets. Something tells me there are newer and more modern methods used today. Although, I doubt those new methods are as fuel efficient as the old way.
ReplyDeleteThey look newer than a lot of water towers I have seen. You are right, it does look like a gloomy day. Kind of like our day yesterday and today.
ReplyDeletethis style always looks like ufos to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI am surprised too...that there are two together. A wintery day indeed.
ReplyDeleteTemple-like comes to mind. Quite spectacular, Kate. I really like this!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look like monuments.
ReplyDeleteGood composition, Kate!
ReplyDeleteWater towers? Naaah. They're probably top secret receiver stations for communicating with UFOs. ;->
ReplyDeleteAnd ugh. Welcome to winter.
I would say you are right on calling them water towers. Your dreary skies extend all the way to Oklahoma.
ReplyDeleteThey look so monumental and alien-like. Really cool
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to guess where they are. Reminds me of Snelling Ave. across from Gloria Dei....:)
ReplyDeleteA very modern design. Don't look like any of the water towers around here.
ReplyDeleteThey need a paint job to make them more appealing.
ReplyDeleteThey look a wee bit different from the water towers I've seen before Kate, nice find.. grey skies indeed!
ReplyDeleteThank you for introducing your world! The water towers are impressive,
ReplyDeleteHave a great day
