"Young Girl Reading"

A Young Girl Reading
Using Imagination
A World of Her Own
Inspired by a post by another Minnesota blogger, Extended Library Jewel, who reviewed a book that included art involving women reading, I decided to try to use a version of that as a Monday theme for my own blog, but rather than confine it to females reading, I shall include men and boys, also.  The debut portrait is of my granddaughter, Olivia, paired with a portrait by Jean-Honoré Fragonard entitled "A Young Girl Reading"--neither of whom are yet women but reading sends them on the right path.

Olivia, holding Columbia, is reading The Music of Dolphins by Karen Hesse

  6. Anything which promotes reading is good! My daughter always had her nose stuck in a book; mayhap that's why she has become an English teacher.

The photo of Olivia made me smile, what a lovely granddaughter you have. =)

  7. Yes, reading opens all kinds of doors to the imagination and elsewhere. But, it also depends a bit upon what one reads. I've adults who read only Batman comics. I won't tell you which political party they belong to. ;)

  8. Few previleged youngsters could read like the girl on Fragonard's painting. If few youngsters read today, it's more due to competition by other medias. I'm happy to see that your granddaughter does some real reading!

  10. Such a great habit to instill! My daughter still reads with (and not just to anymore) my eight-year-old grandson every night at bedtime. Imagine how pleased she was last year when he wrote on a little "test" in second grade that his favorite subject was reading!

  16. Nothing better! She's launched on a lifetime of pleasure. Hooray!

I just weakened and transitioned to a Kindle. I wasn't sure I'd like an electronic format and have been amazed at how much I love it. What a treat to so easily carry a good read everywhere.
