Native American Artifacts

One of my friends has an outstanding collection of Indian baskets and other Native American artifacts. This photo shows some objects that demonstrate the exquisite skills of individual artists. Beautiful, aren't they?

  3. They are beautiful indeed, Kate. I
love those native artifacts, there's something simple and no-nonsense about them that really speak to me.

I never mentioned it before but I'm glad you're back to daily posting. Your photos are always so interesting.

Native American art, in most any form, leave me in shame.

I have woven baskets (remember when that craze went through us like a physic?) but none were like these.

I have made shoes but none looked anything like those they make.

They seemed able to make simple choices turn into great works of art that they wore and used.

I can't even string beads and make them beautiful.

This photograph is really nice and it shows how clever their work is.

  9. They are beautifully made - I wonder how many generations have passed the art to the next? It probably goes back centuries.

  11. Kate - this has the quality of a delicately balanced still life, but with a most non-traditional subject. I enjoy native American art, too, especially kachinas.
