America's Future

During St. Paul's balmy 45 degree weather on Sunday, I noticed this enterprising young woman selling Girl Scout cookies.  17-year-old Rachel is a high school senior at a local suburban high school and has been in the Girl Scouts for 14 years, since kindergarten.   Her sash contains many badges, among them bronze, silver, and gold.  The gold, which she just recently earned, required 80 hours of community service. Rachel mentioned that it is equivalent to an Eagle Scout.  Okay, Boy Scouters, let's see you match this beautiful young woman.! Judging by her poise and motivation, our future is secure with young women like Rachel.

  1. And she accepts credit cards, not good for me, who can not pass up the cookies. Well done Rachel, I wonder if the local newspaper gives as much attention to her as the probably would an Eagle scout?

  3. I think this is a really great tradition. One we don't have here in Europe. I hope Rachel will raise a lot of money.

  5. It must have felt like a heat wave! I remember selling Girl Scout Cookies door to door, but that was a very long time ago.

  8. I have to laugh...I read the title "America's Future" and my eyes immediately fell on the sign saying "We accept credit cards." That seems pretty true...
Rachel has a beautiful smile and seems ready and able to take on a challenge. Good for her!
