If Only...

When I met DH he was driving a black '61 Corvette with white side panels.  It was later traded for marriage, two kids, law school and a great life with me!! On our recent holiday road trip we stopped in Hastings, Mn. to look at and awe over the vintage automobiles.  As I snapped Jim's photo I was wondering what was going through his mind.  Since it's my birthday today, I bet that he's considering giving me a Corvette for old time's sake. ... Yah, right!!

  3. Happy birthday.

You comments about the sacrifice of a classic sports dar for other priorities in life remind me about a TV commercial that ran a few years ago. It showed a garage door going up slowly, while the voice over said "First it was the children, then braces, then college . . . private college, then the wedding." As the garage door opened high enough to reveal the the Mercedes logo on the back of the car in the garage, the commercial concluded, "Now, it's your turn."

My wife did surprise me 5 or 6 years ago and gave me a Mercedes for my birthday. This year, we are trading in the Mercedes and I will take over driving her car so she can buy something she thinks will be more suited for her.

I trust that your husband reads your blog, so if you do not get the Corvette this year, there is always next year.

  4. My first love as Italian kid was (and honestly still is) a Thunderbird 1959 (possibly pink). By the way two years ago in Miami I could take a photo of a Corvette and I was much more than excited: Happy !!! --- I wish you to spend another life with your husband and, why not, a red Corvette :-))

  11. No, Kate.
He's seriously thinking of trading YOU in..
No matter how much he denies it, THAT's what he's thinking.

  12. We have a friend who celebrated his 80th birthday a couple of years ago...his wife and children bought him an exact replica of the Mercedes 250SL that he gave up when he first got married and had a family...it was a surprise...(he was a retired police chief)...at the party, a police officer from the city he had retired from, came in and asked who had parked their mercedes out front...given that he was a So Pas officer in Pasadena, it appeared somewhat fishy...but Bill went out with the officer to see who's it was...the mercedes had a big red bow on the front....it was pretty cool!!!

Unfortunately, they had bought it from someone on the east coast and it had tremendous rust damage in the undercarriage and they had to return it...but he ended up getting a replacement, though not an exact replica...

And yep, he's 80, and still able to drive well!!!
