Pianos on Parade, 2013

ABOUTPianos on Parade (POP) is a project that places 'artistically transformed' pianos around the Twin Cities in various outdoor locations for all to play and enjoy.
Some of these pianos remained in their respective outdoor locations for the duration of the event (June-August, 2013).  These pianos paid host to both spontaneous and planned events and concerts. Other pianos were on tour and popped up at various outdoor fairs, festivals, restaurant patios and sporting events throughout the summer.

Happy color and a fun thing to do to put it outside for concerts.
    I like it.

Love this. Denver,CO has done the same along the 16th St Mall. They are painted by artists...and are there for anyone to enjoy playing from May to Sept.

I love these! We had something similar last year in Toronto. I only wish I had been able to get out and catch more of them. :)

Great concept, if they can protect the pianos from the elements.

Julie's mother plays the piano, but not often enough for her or our tastes. Just last night at dinner we were talking about it, as yesterday she sat down at the piano in the care home where Glenda's mother lives, and played a little. Some of the residents who don't like to come out of their rooms came out to enjoy listening to the music.

The power of music! If I played that would be one of the things I would do. I had a student a number of years ago who took his violin to the Children's Hospital and regularly went down to play for the preemies. What a guy!!

The locations have light tarps provided to cover them.

A pleasing sight and sound! I suppose the pianos aren't happy to be outside overnight but the tradeoff sounds worth it.

They had the same project in Toronto. It was called Play Me, I'm Yours.

I really like the idea but worry about the rain. Even here we do have some occasional rain!

Cool! You've just reminded me that I have a photo of a painted/decorated piano that I have never posted. Hmmm. I wonder where it is!
