This Side of Paradise

Another Fitzgerald post: F.Ssott Fitzgerald wrote the novel, This Side of Paradise, while living in this brownstone apartment building on 593/599 Summit Avenue. He had met Zelda, his future wife, while serving in the army. Originally she had not wanted to marry Scott because of his uncertain financial future, but after the publication of the novel, she apparently changed her mind. They did not remain long in Minnesota and led a busy, often debt-ridden existence, as international icons of the Jazz Age.

A year ago the house was up for sale.  Go to this link to see what the interior looked like when it was put on the market.

  2. It's a beauty, probably didn't last long on the market.

  3. It looks like a lovely place but, that is an awful lot of stairs!

  4. I do love the architecture of that building, but it would need a lot of renovation before I could live there. And it's way too rich for my blood. For that kind of money, I could buy a large beautiful modern home on ten acres in horse country down here!

  5. Darn, I'm not sure if my comment went through so I'll try again ... I said I love the architecture but the place would need substantial renovation before I could live there. And for that kind of money I could buy a very large beautiful modern home on ten acres in horse country down here! :)

  7. What a beautiful old home! I'd definitely pass on the stairs, though.

  8. Wow it was fun to see this. Wonder if a writer could draw inspiration from living there.
In answer to your question. The old filling station seems to be abandoned.
