Construction Boss Lady!!

Shannon, who interestingly graduated from the school in 1974, is a project manager of the Huss Center for the Performing Arts, which is currently under construction by the McGough firm. She gave former faculty and staff whom I featured yesterday a tour of the future 30,000 sq. ft. multiple-use building.  It doesn't look like much now but it is going to be a beautiful and useful space that will be a super addition to the student body for creative activity.

  3. It must be especially meaningful to her to be responsible for overseeing the construction of an important new building at her alma mater.

  4. Congratulations to Shannon for being responsible for the project. We still need more women like her.

Thank you Kate for your comment on my blog. Yes Kate it IS going to be tricky to keep moving forward towards a better world.. I sometimes have strong doubts about where we're heading. I try to blame my pessimistic feelings on personal grief but I'm not sure it is the point.

  7. I'm not sure if I commented on this one- isn't it always the way tto build something like this after faculty or students have moved on to other things?

I saw your question for CDP Facebook in my email notices; I can't answer there at the moment, but this post from yesterday is the most recent of yours that I see on the CDP portal. Looking at it, it appears quite a number are missing at present. I imagine it is just a glitch.

Women in construction and other "macho" jobs were common in the WWII era. Then all the rivetors Rosie were forced back into kitchens. This woman shines like a new penny, a real inspiration. Hope the project wows them all! Amy

  10. It looks like a big project and I'm encouraged that a woman is in charge. There was a time when a woman in construction could expect more abuse than power.
