Alas! Few Spices!

  1. They seem to like decorating the food plates. Pity there were no spices, I should have expect that too.

  2. Interesting. I would have thought the food would have been very spicy and tasty.

  3. Kathy, I, too, was surprised. Overall the food was quite bland, but the mojitos made up for it!!

  7. Looks more fancy than I would have expected. Your comment about not being spicy was interesting. Years ago when we lived in Phoenix, we came to love Mexican food. Then I went fishing with some buddies way down in central Mexico. I remember our first meal - much more bland than Mexican food in Phoenix!

  8. Beautiful presentations! Too bad about the spices. I would have thought you could have gotten some very nice, spicy food while there. There was a good Cuban restaurant in St. Louis when I was working there and they had some delicious dishes.

  10. What beautiful platters of food.
It's a real art to make food look like artwork.
To answer your question about my first photo on my blog, yes it is a bronze sculpture.
The late afternoon sun was shining into my lens so I just went with it and enhanced it a bit.
I kind of like the artsy way it turned out too.
Thanks for looking and have a wonderful rest of the week.

  11. How beautiful! I wonder if the lack of spices is to accommodate tourists who have thought it was too spicy? Or if it has become too expensive to import? I recently read that during the Soviet era Czech cooks were only allowed to use a state-issued cookbook that almost obliterated traditional Czech cooking and certainly any innovation. Chefs are just now beginning to become creative again.

  12. That surprises me about the spices. Looks tasty though.

  13. I've thought that when I traveled overseas. Maybe we are spoiled with such diverse spice choices. Maybe their taste buds don't need it.
