One of Each Please!

I would NEVER brave the crowds and go shopping on Black Friday, a huge shopping day after Thanksgiving in the US. Merchants rely heavily upon sales on that big day, and consumers race from store to store looking for bargains. Some even camp out overnight to get special deals, especially at electronics stores. This year one of the WalMart stores had to close their doors when a fight broke out among shoppers who wanted the same merchandise. Madness!!

Despite refusing to join the hordes, I made my way to a Rug Cleaning establishment that was offering 30% discount on that day only so I brought in an area rug that I want to use to spiff up my new "room of my own." The highly reputable shop also sells oriental rugs, and, of course, they were on sale for Black Friday. In addition to salivating over the rugs I decided to take some photos. Not the best light, but you get the picture!!

  2. I agree that crowded stores are a good place to avoid, and conflicts among shoppers over purchases bring out the worst in human behavior. Last year we were in Argentina for the seek of Thanksgiving and the behavior of some American shoppers on Black Friday even made the news down there.

  3. I avoided Black Friday this year too, but I sure wouldn't have minded going here. Beautiful rugs.

  4. I've got a rug that needs cleaning, too! Where did you bring it? I love going into rug stores - my wife pulls me out of them!

  5. What is it with The WalMartians? And I don't understand people who 'camp-out' to spend money.

  6. I don't understand the draw of "Black Friday". I don't think the bargains are really that great and I certainly don't want to get trampled for a $20 DVD player. My life (and time) is worth much more than that!!

I like these rugs though. Glad you got at least one good bargain from the weekend.

  7. I haven't dropped by for a while and it was fun going back over all your entries since your self imposed sabatical. Enjoyed each one.
I need to get my rugs cleaned too. Think you may have pushed me into action.
Black Friday...no way. I just can't handle all the pushing and shoving and franetic attitudes.
Christmas is going to be much more simple this year.

  8. Nice going. And it's good to know there are places to shop on Black Friday that are relatively safe!

  9. Got the picture, as you say, no problem!

(I understand that there was some disappointment about the consumption during Black Friday, a bit lower than usual.)
