Anchors Aweigh!

During the Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Neighborhood House, located in a Latino community of St. Paul, veterans enjoyed a luncheon together. I was there touring the facility because I plan to volunteer to help teach ESL (English as a Second Language) classes in that community center. This veteran was leaving with others as I passed him, but he took time to pose for me before he left. Unfortunately, we did not have time to chat so that I could get essential information about the medals from him. He's a fascinating subject, isn't he??

  1. en effet un très bon choix de sujet, tu pourras peut-être discuter avec lui un autre jour, comme cela tu pourras faire d'autres portraits de lui.

indeed a very good choice of topic, you may be discussing with him another day, as you can make other portraits of him.

  2. Thank you for teaching ESL, and for your portrait. It helps show the contributions of the Latino community to our armed services, as subject initially overlooked by Ken Burns in his World War II documentary and a subject often overlooked by those who oppose immigration.

Another contribution of the Latino community is that during World War II, when the USA had a labor shortage and rationing, the US used imported Mexican labor to grow and harvest the food needed for the civilian and military population.

It is more remarkable that he can get into his Navy Uniform.
