The Mighty Miss...Ole Man River

Although I'm now in Mazatlan, I felt that I need to participate in this theme day! I imagine that when people think of my city they could imagine a number of different images: ice and snow, the capitol dome, Winter Carnival, 3 M Co, F.Scott Fitzgerald...the list is endless, but one of the defining features is the Mississippi River. After you are finished admiring my favorite river, check some of the other blogs from around the world to see some fantastic photos and perhaps learn a thing or two!!

  1. I fear perhaps St Paul might suffer from having "shadow of Minneapolis" thoughts, but for those who can separate the twins, I agree....the Mississippi every time!!

  2. Nope, Sally, we decidedly do NOT have "shadow of Minneapolis thoughts" because the cities are distinctly different, and each are unique in their own right. Non-natives may feel bigger is better, but we know better!! St. Paul is terrific!!

  3. I agree....St Paul is terrific!

I was wondering if you were participating in today's theme day for St Paul. I'm glad you had a great photo and a very good choice in your idea.

I'm sure you've heard, but you missed yet another nasty -15F cold spell. [two days before it was +38 degrees mind you]

  17. Kate, What I love about this photo is the lack of city sites, it's all natural and the river stars. Sometimes the cities we live in dwarf the natural surroundings that helped create a place to live. Have a lovely warm day (she said through gritted teeth as she made preparations to head out into the 39 F cold wind to an appointment. . .nothing like MN, though!)

  20. My first thought about St. Paul is the World Theater and Prairie Home Companion. Also remember an encounter with a mentally ill homeless man who tried to take my camera. Ah, St. Paul...

  24. Thanks, Kate, for this fine photo. I miss seeing the Mississippi at Vicksburg, so this is a special treat.

I enjoyed looking at your Mazatlan blog. You two are blessed as are the dogs Jim is walking.

Glad you enjoyed Duncan's photo. I should have taken one with the little snowflakes falling all around, but I didn't want him to get wet!

  25. I would think of Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor.

  28. I really like this shot. The Mississippi up there is SO different looking than the part I used to live near, between Louisiana and Mississippi.

It's so peaceful in the photo, it reminds me of the Chattahoochee River the way it looks going through Atlanta.
