That's a good legacy for a bridge. I can't say, though, that everything old is necessarily precious. It seems that circular on-off ramps are the norm today, if not for bridges, for freeways.Franciscahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10733111654769386624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28981938.post-46794516142422979122010-09-12T06:44:07.675-05:002010-09-12T06:44:07.675-05:00I think the bridge on the left looks safer than th...I think the bridge on the left looks safer than the one on the right.BlossomFlowerGirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00771668346318423898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28981938.post-55811730146501182962010-09-12T04:24:23.708-05:002010-09-12T04:24:23.708-05:00belle photo, j'aime beaucoup la vieille carte ...belle photo, j'aime beaucoup la vieille carte postaleOlivierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00602980523811128510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28981938.post-66215774217167826132010-09-12T04:14:53.804-05:002010-09-12T04:14:53.804-05:00Very interesting about the former spiral bridge. ...Very interesting about the former spiral bridge. In the 1960's the highway planners in Phoenix proposed doing spiral on and off ramps for an interstate highway that cut right across the edge of downtown. There was considered not enough room for conventional on and off ramps. The design would have caused the freeway to be elevated 70 feet in the air.

Fortunately, the daily newspaper publisher opposed the idea and the freeway was delayed. When they finally built the freeway in the late 1980's, the put it in a tunnel below ground and put a park on top of it, which today has the main Phoenix library, a Japanese garden, and other benefits for the community.

By the way, we have photos of Santa Fe going up today on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.Dave-CostaRicaDailyPhoto.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02567583999945259422noreply@blogger.com
