Light Rail

“We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, ..."
C.S. Lewis quotes (British Scholar and Novelist. 1898-1963)

Construction of a section of the Light Rail between downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis is raising havoc with city streets.  This hole-in-the-ground is just a small section of what shop owners, customers, and people who work downtown have faced for several months now. I snapped this portion right next to part of the Farmers Market on Sunday. Yes, it will be convenient when completed, but in the meantime...

Farmers Market

Haven't been out on a photo shoot for a long time, but this young man reminded me that many interesting subjects hang out at the week-end Farmers Market.  Now all I have to do is get dressed and move...

Block Party #2

How could any child resist this?

I wonder who's more interested...Dad or child?
One of the dining areas in the middle of the street.

Even the adults got into the act!
See yesterday's post for an explanation of what's going on...

Block Party

Last Tuesday our neighborhood enjoyed a cookout, organized by one of our more gregarious neighbors.  Traffic was averted and several blocks were barricaded so that we had the use of driveways for grilling and the street where tables and chairs were set up.  It was arranged so that we brought our own meat or entree, but we all contributed to the feast: appetizers, salads, and desserts. Three police cars, two fire trucks, and paramedics arrived during the celebration to mingle with the kids and to have a little fun themselves. Tomorrow I'll show you more photos of the festivities.

The Ferry

The ferry is the way to get to and from the Island. Getting there is always exciting, but leaving is often a bit sad.

On Land or Lake...

On land or lake, it appears that there's one activity a lot of people love to do.

This Stavrkirke on Washington Island, Wisconsin, is both a replica from an ancient style of church construction common in Norway during medieval times and a tribute to Washington Island's Scandinavian heritage.  The Stavkirke shown above is patterned after the Borgund, Norway, church built in 1150 A.D. Of the more than 1,000 old stave churches that once existed, some thirty-three now remain.

Where Are We?

Doesn't look like we're on an Island in Wisconsin, does it?

Take a Seat

I doubt that these chairs are antiques, but I still love the old style. It's a good feeling to be sitting, resting, and watching the boats and birds skimming the water on the Bay.

A Big Thrill

Our biggest thrill on our island vacation so far has been meeting this sweet Miss, quite unexpectantly while driving home from the beach.  She was very cooperative and stood stock still to be photographed before taking her leave of us.

Not exactly the Red Balloon, but just as much fun.

Killer Coffee

Before we go any further on the Island, we'd better stop at the Red Cup to fortify ourselves.

Washington Island

I left Santa Fe last Wednesday (I'm still posting some of my photos on my Santa Fe blog, though) and we're on our way to Washington  Island, WI for our annual week vacation there, part of my childhood memories.  Come back, and I'll show you a really good time!!

PS. I'm in another city (village, really) where I'm having problems with internet!  Bear with me!!
